What to Expect - Options - Treatment Goals - Our Patients - Insurance Accepted

What to Expect
As a patient with Dr. Grotz, you can expect a complete and thorough examination. This will include a discussion of your injury and any current complaints. We like to discern not only the source and extent of your injury, but also to understand your goals for treatment. In addition, Dr. Grotz, assisted by a member of his staff, will perform a comprehensive physical examination in order to better understand your condition. X-rays may be acquired in order to further evaluate your injury.

Following your thorough evaluation, Dr. Grotz will go through what a Doctor can do for a patient, and make specific treatment recommendations in accord with your own personal goals. Finally, we will ensure that all of your questions are answered and concerns addressed before you leave the office.

Options
Your options as a patient range from doing nothing, to utilizing conservative treatment measures, to the consideration of surgery. Dr. Grotz' intent is to provide comprehensive care by providing compassionate and appropriate care for your orthopedic injuries, but also providing appropriate referrals for related disorders, such as reactive depression, pain management, etc.

Treatment Goals
Goals include lesser morbid surgeries, using minimal incisions for both arthroscopy and arthroplasty treatments. Techniques used will be based on the experience Dr. Grotz has had treating patients since 1981, and on past and recent training. This means the treatments will intend to be valid, reliable, and up to date as well.

We enjoy helping patients keep their own joints intact when other medical recommendations have encouraged joint-replacement arthroplasty. Often even joints with severe traumatic arthritis in multiple locations can be saved. The world's record for restoring an injured knee-joint is 31 square centimeters; Dr. Grotz has replaced up to 30 square centimeters of injured knee-joint surface with living cartilage cells through the Carticel procedure.

Who Are Our Patients?
Patients in this office are variable and include police, fire-fighters, iron-workers, those with repetitive strain injuries, and many others. We generally receive individuals who have serious and complex problems, as opposed to minor strains, which are likely to heal quickly on their own. We welcome the challenge to help you get as much from life as you can and expect from you the commitment to try to get well.

Since Dr. Grotz is a surgeon, he welcomes the referral of patients who will require surgery-including those who have not had substantial improvement following surgical treatment by prior physicians.
